about

. The “Dub King Killah” EP introduces Toronto, Canada’s mysterious Earlyworm -- a.k.a horn player and producer John James -- a veteran Ska musician turned dread dub general.

Influenced by classic Jamaican producers like King Tubby, Lee “Scratch” Perry and Scientist, Earlyworm’s music invokes those greats as well as contemporary roots acts Twilight Circus and Tiklah.

The “Dub King Killah” EP features three original Earlyworm tracks that offer live horns and spring reverb-drenched production touches. “Tribal Dub” is a meditative steppers dub piece, while the title track is full of spectacular rhythmic dips and swirling echoes. The release also features dubstep remixes from two of San Francisco’s hottest producers, Roommate from Babylon System and Kush Arora.

Justin “Roommate” McCauley (Hollow Point, Argon) has been releasing his own tracks since 2007 and is one of dubstep’s most internationally in-demand remixers. Representing the Surya Dub crew, bhangra, grime and otherworldly dub are all part of Kush Arora’s repertoire. Kush has collaborated with Sub Swara, Zulu and Juakali and released four albums since 2004 including 2009’s acclaimed Boiling Over (Record Label Records).
